-2- <br />Type IV surveys are being made in cooperation with the Colorado Water <br />Conservation Board and have been completed on the Gunnison, Colorado River <br />in Colorado, and White River basins and are currently underway on the Yampa, <br />Dolores, and San Juan River basins. <br />WATERSHED PROJECTS IN COLORADO WITH CONSTRUCTION CONIPLEFE (Pilot & P.Ls - S66) <br />1. Kiowa Creek Pilot Watershed Project - Elbert and El Paso Counties - <br />- acres aiT 62 floodwater -retarding dams. It was <br />completed June 30, 1961 at a total cost of $1,274,675 of which $284,953 was <br />local contribution. A comprehensive project evaluation program contiiiued <br />through fiscal year 1966. <br />2 Wray Watershed Project (P.L. S66) - Yuma County - This project contains <br />2,39T­aET was sponsored by - 0 - 1711ale Soil Conservation District and. the <br />City of Wray. The purpose of the project which was completed in the spring <br />of 1963 with the seeding of six retarding structures was to protect the <br />agricultural floodplains and the City of Wray from flood damage, The final <br />project cost was $262,076 ($22,182 local). <br />3. West Cherry Creek Pro (P.L. 566) - Douglas and El Paso Counties - <br />----- – <br />The project area is 31,360 acres anj w sponsored by the Douglas County Soil <br />Conservation District and the Colorado State Soil Conservation Board. It was <br />completed in 1962 at a cost of $436,614 including local costs of $72,458, <br />Approximately 7S percent of needed land treatment measures have been applied <br />an the 40 ranches in the watershed. Structural measures included 10 flood <br />prevention dams to protect highly productive valley bottom lands used for <br />crops and hay. <br />4. Coalbank Creek Watershed (P.L. 566) - Weld County - The project contains <br />24 acres an was sponsore y t.ie est Greeley Soil Conse ry t District, <br />Weld County and the Colorado State Soil Conservation Board. It was completed <br />in the spring of 1963 at a cost of $419,914 ($252,867 P.L� 566, $167,047 <br />other funds). Approximately 70 percent of needed land treatment measures <br />have been installed by the 109 farmers in the watershed. One flood prevention <br />dam and two grade stabilization structures were built to protect highly productive <br />irrigated farmland, roads, and associated property from flood damage. <br />gdWa�tershedProject (PoLo 566) - Elbert and El Paso Counties, The <br />project area is acres. iss <br />I Tt sponsored by she Big Sandy Soil Conservation <br />District with the Colorado Game, Fish and Parks Department and the Colorado <br />State Soil Conservation Board as a cooperating agency. Construction is complete <br />at an estimated cost of $1,661,026 ($1,127,401 P.L. S66, $503,625 other funds). <br />Progress in applying needed land treatment measures on the 156 farms and ranches <br />I IAT�+ ql,nA ;q well advanced and dollar evaluation shows 162 percent of the <br />I L L 14,_ eJ. <br />planned practices applied. Structural works include 14 flood prevention dams, <br />one of which (Ramah) is a multi-purpose structure which has 500 acre-feet of <br />storage for fish and wildlife-recreation purposes. <br />
