Benefit Appraisal <br />Saving in Project Operation and Maintenance Cost - Rehabilitation of the <br />transmission system will result in reduced O &M costs. The irrigation <br />company has complete records of past 0 &M costs which will be used to <br />establish present costs. The planning staff will assist the superin- <br />tendent of the company to calculate (fiM cost without project conditions. <br />The planning engineer will calculate 0 &M cost with project conditions. <br />The difference in O &M costs with and without project conditions will be <br />benefits occurring to the project. <br />Saving in pumping costs - Rehabilitation of the transmission system <br />will reduce seepage losses. This saving of water will reduce the amount <br />of water that is necessary to pump. The saving of pumping costs will be <br />a benefit occurring to the project. <br />Redevelopment and Secondary Benefits - These benefits will be calculated <br />in accordance with Chapters 11 and 12 of the Economic Guide. <br />Land Treatment <br />The State Resource Conservationist, plant scientis 4 and the district <br />conservationist will, (1) develop project land treatment needs, rates, <br />and costs of establishment, (2) amount of present technical assistance <br />available, (3) additional technical assistance that may be needed, and <br />(4) amount and cost of land treatment measure applied during the past <br />10 years. <br />Other Investigations <br />Should the benefit -cost ratio be marginal using the benefits described <br />in the Economic Section, then more intensive use benefits will be <br />calculated using cost - return data with and without project conditions. <br />The attached table summarizes the estimated man -day and cost inputs, <br />and schedule for developing the work plan. <br />Preliminary estimates indicate that the final plan will include <br />structural works of improvement costing $648,900, of which $391,390 <br />will be borne by PL -566 funds and $257,510 by other funds. <br />rri .1 a <br />1 ? <br />r <br />Approved <br />p <br />State Conservationist <br />-4- <br />
