Canal lining appears feasible for several laterals in this system.
Field investigations and a records search will be made to determine
irrigation efficiency and water requirements. Consumptive use will
be determined using TR -21 procedures. Company records and system
inflow - outflow measurements will be used to determine conveyance
efficiencies.
Plans are to utilize computer programs where applicable. At present
the computer is being used for project control and water consumptive
use calculations.
It is planned to use a computer program to select a "best" distribution
system and to make crop return value comparisons. Also, a U.S.G.S.
Analog Model Program will be utilised to predict effects of canal
lining to ground water tables and to pumping costs.
The following main measure quantities (approximate) are being considered:
I. Twenty miles of canal lining (9 laterals) with capacities of
100 to 15 c.f.s. will be surveyed for profile and cross
sections.
2. Realignment, totalling about one mile of the canal system.
3. One hundred turnout, measuring, and conveyance structures.
4. Pumping plant system for lands below the Smith Reservoir.
Economic
Basic Data
Land use and crops - Present land use and crops grown in the project
will be furnished by the superintendent of the Trinchera Irrigation
Company.
Composite Acre - Present project composite acre will be computed from
the crop data furnished by the irrigation company.
Crop Yields - Present crop yields will be obtained from the irrigation
company. Crop yield with and without project conditions will be based
upon: cropland yields, predictions by soil series for land resource
areas, Colorado agricultural statistics, and technicians working in
the project area. The State Resource Conservationist and his Staff
will correlate and supplement the above data, and will establish
cropping pattern and yields with and without project conditions.
-3-
