1
-3.-
Montezuma Valley Irrigation Co. some time in March to try and obtain their signed
approval of the above agreement.
5:.Conclusion. It was concluded that it probably would cost the water
users as much, or more, to pay for the 16,000 acre feet of water they would obtain
in the proposed P. L. 566 Project, as they would for the 15,950 acre feet under
the Dolores Project. It was decided that it would be best for both Federal agencies
imrolved, and also for the water users, to take no action regarding the P. L. 566
Project until the Btareauts feasibility report was completed in July 1961. By that
time, a Conservancy District will be orgmized, or rejected, by the local people,
and thus establish their interest in one of the two proposed projects.
6. Talk with 11r. Bill Eakes Following the meeting with the Bureau
representatives, we met with Mr, Eakes who has been hired by the South Western
Colorado Conservancy District to establish a Conservancy District for the Dolores
Project. He had heard of the proposed P. L. 566 Project, but was unaware that
an application for the project had been submitted. He, too, was of the opinion
that the best approach was not to take a stand for either project at this time,
but to let the local people voice their desires in their voting for or against
the Conservancy District.
Stanley A.
