DESIGNATION OF PORTIONS OF THE CACHE LA POUDRE RIVER, <br />COLORADO, IN THE NATIONAL WILD & SCENIC RIVER SYSTEM <br />The Cache la Poudre River, a unique, scenic river, is <br />located in north - central Colorado. It begins at the continental <br />divide at Poudre Lake which is located in Rocky Mountain <br />National Park. <br />The river flows generally in an easterly direction through <br />Roosevelt National Forest, the cities of LaPorte, Fort Collins, <br />and Greeley, Colorado, before joining the South Platte River. <br />The U.S. Forest Service has studied 83 miles of the upper <br />reaches of the river for inclusion in the national wild and <br />scenic river system and recommended 62 miles for designation. <br />Does not affect the use and management of existing water <br />development in the Poudre River Basin. <br />Designates 31 miles of the Cache la Poudre as "wild" <br />and designates 44 miles as "recreational." <br />Names the upper 18 miles of the - river the "Peter H. Dominick <br />Wild River Area." <br />Preserves the current jurisdiction of water rights under <br />existing state law. <br />The Wild River areas are. <br />Beginning at Poudre Lake downstream to the confluence <br />of Joe Wright Creek, 18 miles. <br />South Fork Cache la Poudre River from its source to the <br />Commanche Peak Wilderness Boundary, 4 miles. <br />South Fork of the <br />intersection with <br />Sec.30 Township 8 <br />confluence of the <br />River. <br />Cache la Poudre River from its <br />the easterly section line of <br />North, Range 72 West, to the <br />main stem of the Cache la Poudre <br />(MORE) <br />
