Task 3: March through July 1996
Conduct aerial reconnaissance, photography, and topographic surveys of the
proposed study reaches. Develop limiting factors criteria. Document habitat and
fish composition (if possible) at flow levels occurring during site visits.
Task 4: August through September 1996
Conduct computer hydraulic modeling of the study reaches based on the
information gathered in the field. Determine range of physical parameters at a
range of flows representative of historic hydrologic conditions in the mid to late
summer. Evaluate the potential benefit of diversion structure modification,
possible storage releases from an enlarged Elkhead Reservoir, or acquisition of
senior direct flow water rights to facilitate fish passage.
Objective 2:
Task 5: August through September 1996
Use hydrologic model to determine frequency and duration of threshold flow
condition at present and future consumptive use levels; the need, frequency and
duration of flows required to provide passage; and the potential storage
availability for augmentation flows.
Assess biological and population data of Colorado squawfish to determine
potential historic hnpacts and a characteristic range of migration periods and flow
ranges for the return migration period.
Task 6: August through September 1996
Participate in discussions and field evaluations between and with the project team
members and other interested experts to facilitate the formulation of an opinion
of the range of flows required for the migration of the Colorado squawfish in the
Yampa River system.
Task 7: October through December 1996
Prepare a project report including recommendations concerning the potential
benefit(s) to the migration of the Colorado squawfish from improvements to
diversion structures, releases of stored water from the proposed enlargement pool
in Elkhead Reservoir under various reservoir operation rules, or acquisition of
senior direct flow water rights.
Objective 3:
Task 1: January through March
Acquire radio tags and data logger detection equipment.
