u
E
Questions and Comments
regarding the
US Fish and Wildlife Service/Yampa River Basin Partnership
Meeting of March 24. 1997
Holiday Inn Craig Co.
Q) At what point does the alleged endangered fish overwhelm the needs
of the local landowners and inhabitants?
Q) Since the Federal Government is only supposed to own 10 square miles
on the Potomac, plus military bases, post offices, and other needful
buildings, how do they justify spending a tremendous amount of money
trying to buy water rights and property?
Q) How did the fish get along I in the Yampa River with high and low flows
one hundred years ago without'your help?
1934 was the lowest water that 1 know (in the Yampa River).
Q) Considering a low flow enyironment (August- October)
If 500,000 gallons per day were.. released from the Elk Head dam, how
many gallons in increased flow j would be seen at the confluence of the
Yampa and Green Rivers?
How long would it take to realize the increased flow at this confluence?
How long would it take to realize the maximum sustainable gain at the
confluence, minus evaporation and absorption losses? r
What would the maximum sustainable increase be?
Q) Will the plan infringe upon existing water rights? Can you elaborate on
the State Law which protects these rights?
Q) Will the current study make a comparison of historical flows and test
the impact of flows on the different species?
Q) Why haven't you performed an Environmental Impact Study?
Q) Will the studies which are being conducted provide enough information
to make the necessary decisions?
Q) Will the studies on the Squawfish include Echo Park, Ladore, and the
Green River to flaming Gorge?
