Town of Vail - Town Council - Town Council Highlights - Archive - October 2, 2001 Page 4 of 10
Sybill Navas reported on her attendance at a Northwest Colorado Coun
of Governments meeting in Aspen last week in which the group discuss
the possibility of absorbing programs created by the five - county Rural
Resort Region, which is disbanding. Also, Navas said she and Diana
Donovan had met with a subgroup working on New Year's Eve
entertainment options. The plan includes booking a concert at Dobson
Arena, plus relocating the annual Rave in the New Year event to anothe
site. Both events would provide entertainment outlets to offset a townwid
curfew at 10:30 p.m. for 17 and under as well as a 10:30 p.m. Special
Event District in Vail Village for 21 and over. Lastly, Navas said she had
met with Jen Brown of the Vail Valley Chamber of Commerce and Frank
Johnson of the Vail Valley Tourism and Convention Bureau to discuss h
involvement on a Workforce Enhancement Committee. Navas said the
group is looking to form regional coalitions to address various employee
recruitment issues.
/ 1 1 -i
ry
-- Information Update
As a follow up to the Vail Today request for additional lighting along Gor
Creek Drive, the Council reviewed plans for landscape improvements at
the Lodge at Vail. The plans, approved by the Design Review Board, cal
for up to eight additional street lights in the area, plus more lighting from
within a series of planters. However, Rick Scalpello, the promoter of Vail
Today, questioned the effectiveness of the plan, noting the need for
additional lights. The Council agreed to schedule a work session to
discuss the lighting issue in more detail. For more information, contact
Brent Wilson in the Community Development Department at 479 -2140.
- -Other
Upon learning the Vail Village Inn will be renting kitchenless rooms to
employees during the ski season, Councilman Kevin Foley expressed
concern about use of portable cooking facilities, such as microwaves, th
could overload the electrical system. Community Development Director
Russell Forrest offered to follow up with help from the building division.
Sybill Navas inquired about two constituent inquiries, one regarding a
dispute over a parking space between two property owners; the other, a
question about use of snowmobiles within the Town of Vail.
-- Executive Session
Next, the Council met in executive session to discuss land acquisition,
litigation and personnel issues. There were no announcements.
http: / /www.ci.vail.co.us /town council /highlights /archive /2001 /011002.htm 01/30/2002
