Town of Vail - Town Council - Town Council Highlights - Archive - October 2, 2001 Page 3 of 10
budget. They described it as a roadmap that allows the ability to make
adjustments once the revenue forecasts are more clearly established.
Councilman Greg Moffet agreed, saying the town must not overreact on
the front end. See evening meeting briefs for additional information, or
contact Town Manager Bob McLaurin at 479 -2105.
P,
-- Winter Use of Bike Paths in Lionshead and Cascade Village Area
This topic was postponed to the Oct. 9 work session to allow for
participation by representatives from Vail Resorts.
N
-- Council Reports
Greg Moffet reported on his appointment to the board of directors of the
Eagle Child Care Association, which was created through a partnership
between the Town of Vail and Eagle County. The role of the not - for -profi
board is to manage the start-up of the new Vail Child Care Center in the
City Market complex. In attending his first board meeting, Moffet said th
group agreed to redesign an operating plan for the facility in which spac
for 20 children will be marketed to individuals. The plan originally called f
recruitment of 40 founding business partners at the $10,000 level. While
that effort has been unsuccessful, to date, Moffet expressed optimism th
the new operating plan will allow the facility to begin operations within th
next 30 days. For additional details, contact John Power, Town of Vail
human resources director, at 479 -2332. Moffet also reported on his
attendance at a Vail Valley Chamber of Commerce meeting, which was
likely the last meeting of the board in its current form, given steps to
merge with the Vail Valley Chamber of Commerce.
Similarly, Rod Slifer reported on his attendance at a Vail Valley Tourism
and Convention Bureau meeting, also likely to be the last gathering of th
particular board pending the merger. While Slifer said the Sept. 11 event
in New York and Washington, D.C., have slowed winter reservation
bookings, cancellations have been minimal. In addition, Slifer shared an
update on his participation at a Bravo! Vail Valley Music Festival board
meeting in which funds are being raised to host three orchestras during
the 2003 season: Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, Dallas Symphony
Orchestra and the New York Philharmonic.
Chuck Ogilby reported that he, Greg Moffet and Town Manager Bob
McLaurin attended a meeting of the Eagle River Water and Sanitation
District to discuss the district's interest in acquiring the Old Town Shops
property for a plant expansion. McLaurin agreed to provide a small
amount of funding for preliminary design work to explore how the curren
gymnastics facility could be incorporated as part of the plant expansion.
http: / /www.ei.vail.co.us /town council /highlights /archive /2001 /011002.htm 01/30/2002
