1 4
committee, must make up their minds that some
specific thing is going to have to be done and
take out on that particular thing and get it done.
The matter of exchange potential as between
the two sites has been pointed out here. Actually
I don't believe that there is any great difference
in the exchange potential in the water utilization
as between the two sites. I think both sites very
closely utilize the full physical capacity and.
there is less site in either case than there is
water, and you can get the same kinds of benefits
in exchange. Not to the same lands, of course,
because there is a space between the two sites,
that's true.
Another point that I might mention.here is
the matter of authorization. The Narrows Unit is
authorized. The Weld County site may be included
in that authorization. That is a specific that
would take some determination. I couldn't answer
the question. I don't know whether it is or not.
There is a question that if the study is expanded
to a basin -wide one that takes in the Cache la
Poudre, the Thompson, the Two Forks, all of those
things, it would seem that there.would belittle
question that that was not authorized. We might
lose the authorization. Consider that for what
it's worth.
From my uninformed standpoint of the last.
month or two, I think that pretty well covers my
thoughts."
MR. GILDERSLEEVE: "Mr. Barkley, did you have something to say ?"
MR. BARKLEY: "Just a comment or two on Mr. Knights' re-
marks. It could be done in another year with
another $100,000. This was stated to us as a
committee the last time we were here so this is
not my estimate. I would agree with you that it
would take more time and more money. But I would
also say that in this wheel spinning that has
taken place to the tune of $1 million so far,
and has thus far accomplished nothing, I'm not
so sure another half million dollars that we are
talking about now for a piece -meal job is going
-15-
