one place probably would make that impractical.
It may not be, I don't know. The overall Platte
River study may show the feasibility of something
of that nature.
I might add at this time also that the Two
Forks or the original Chatfield Dam, as far as
the flood control and the regulation of trans -
mountain diversions, I think is almost a must in
the overall development of the Platte River."
MR. GILDERSLEEVE: "Mr. Sarchet."
MR. SARCHET: "I don't want to appear to be critical of the
Bureau or antagonistic to them in any way but I
feel this steering committee was appointed to
present the thinking of the people in the area
which they represent. In my case that is Adams
County, or Hugh Sloan and I represent Adams and
Weld Counties, which is the area between Denver
and Greeley on the Platte River, principally. The
feeling of our irrigated interests in that area
seems to be, and it's my feeling, that the irri-
gation potential of the Weld County site is
double or triple the potential of the Narrows
site for the reasons which Mr. Osborne has stated.
There are about 60,000 acres of land between the
two sites which we feel couldn't be efficiently
served from the Narrows site.
If an attempt were made to serve that from
the Narrows site, it would have to be through
exchange which would use the water that might
otherwise be available to irrigators in our area
through exchange. We also feel that any of this
water that can be used higher up on the stream in
our area can be reused once or twice before it
reaches the state line. So we feel that the irri-
gation potential to be developed would be more
than double in the Weld County site over the
Narrows site. Of course, I'd rather hear from
some of the people down below but we're not con-
vinced that there is sufficient demand below the
Narrows Dam to make use of the irrigation poten-
tial of the Narrows site. We feel that far
greater efficiency so far as irrigation is con-
cerned could be obtained from the Weld County
