It is proposed that the UGRWCD would be the owner and controller of the water rights
associated with the additional water storage. After recovery of the upfront costs
associated with the proposed engineering study and, if determined feasible, the
construction of a control structure to maintain the increased water storage capacity,
revenues generated from the anticipated sale of the stored water could be used for other
water improvement projects within the District and along the Lake Fork watershed.
PARTICIPATING ENTITIES
Hinsdale County
Upper Gunnison River Water Conservancy District
Colorado Division of Water Resources, Water Division 4
Colorado Water Conservation Board
Bureau of Land Management
Colorado Division of Wildlife
Private Property Owners on Lake San Cristobal
Army Corps of Engineers
Others as necessary
PERMITTING PROCESS: The Hinsdale County Board of County Commissioners
have submitted a letter to the UGRWCD asking that they begin the preliminary steps to
obtain a water right associated with the increased water storage capacity on the Lake.
Other necessary permits will be processed by Hinsdale County in collaboration with the
District, or if more appropriate, by the District with the assistance of the County and
other entities as necessary.
RELEVANT DOCUMENTS: (available upon request)
Colorado Division of Water Resources, Memorandum, January 28, 2003, Jim
Norfleet, Dam Safety Engineer, Follow -up Inspection and Meeting — Lake San Cristobal,
District 62
Colorado Water Conservation Board water right on Lake San Cristobal, Case
Number 4 -W- 3366 -77, Appropriation Date: 5/12/1976, Surface Acres: 346, Lake
Capacity: 13545, Elevation: 8995 ft., Water Division 4, Water District 62
Environmental Assessment, Lake San Cristobal Public Water Based Recreation
Measure, Hinsdale County, Colorado, Lake San Cristobal and Surrounding Terrain,
October 1975.
Colorado Water Conservation Board Memorandum, July 16, 1991, Dan
Merriman, Agenda Item 12, July 23 -24, 1991, Board Meeting — Lake San Cristobal —
Hinsdale County — Presentation on natural Lake Stabilization Issues
USDA, Soil Conservation Service, Letter, ENG — Lake San Cristobal Outlet,
11/20/91, Mike DiLuzio, Area Engineer
