Under terms that were being negotiated between the Water Board and the Pueblo West
Metropolitan District, the District would pay between $200,000 and $400,000 a year for water,
but it also would have to pay an up- front 'plant water connection fee "" of $2.8 million. In other
words, Pueblo West would be treated like any other customer of the Water Board, being charged
for the amount of water supplied it.
As the Water Board has stated, this money would be used to help keep prices to customers within
the city lower than they otherwise would be. Yes, prices may rise due to inflation, but they would
not be raised as much as they otherwise would be due to the income from Pueblo West.
No, we were not happy to see this lawsuit filed, but in light of the clear meaning of the City
• Charter, we believe the Board of Water Works had no other choice.
©© 1996 -2000 The pueblo Chieftain Online
