The conservation pool in Chatfield Reservoir provides a valuable <br />water-based recreational complex to the State and provides the Denver Water Board (Denver Water) <br />opportunities for additional water for its users during times of "severe and prolonged drought conditions". <br />Unfortunately, the demand patterns for these two users can be on competing schedules with long-term <br />impacts to each other. The Colorado Water Conservation Board, Colorado State Parks, and Denver Water <br />have met many times regarding the joint water use concerns and have discussed the competing concerns <br />regarding CHATFIELD WATER with very little resolution to date! <br /> <br />Background Information <br /> <br />There are two 1979 agreements regarding the Colorado Water Conservation Board and Colorado Division <br />Parks and Outdoor Recreation (State) administration of storage space in Chatfield Reservoir. First, an <br />agreement was executed between the State of Colorado and the Corps of Engineers regarding reservoir <br />operations. Secondly, an agreement was executed between the State of Colorado and Denver Water <br />regarding the filling and management of the conservation poo!. The permanent conservation pool has a <br />number of target storage volumes and elevations. <br />The operational volumes and elevations of the permanent conservation pool are: <br /> <br />. Top of Conservation Pool has a volume of 27,428 acre-feet at elevation 5432 feet ms!. <br />. Recognized minimum operational pool is 20,000 acre-feet at elevation 5426.9 feet ms!. <br />. Denver Water has a recognized annual water supply pool of 10,134 acre-feet between elevations <br />5432 t05423 feet msl, available at anytime. <br />. Additional Denver Water storage usage of 16,294 acre-feet pending a drought declaration by the <br />CWCB between elevations 5423 to 5382 feet ms!. <br /> <br />The second agreement was signed by Governor Lamm, CWCB Director Felix Sparks, and State Parks <br />Director George O'Malley Ir. and City and County of Denver (Denver Water) and is dated April 3, 1979. <br /> <br />Flood Protection.
