The deviation involves the storage of water an additional 1.25 feet
above the existing base of the flood control pool (top of conservation pool), from elevation 5432.0 feet
above msl to 5433.25 feet above msl. The overall intent of allowing extra storage in the flood control
pool is to lessen the amount the pool must be drawn down in the next few months if the drought
conditions continue.

Our office has been coordinating with the Colorado Division of Water Resources office in Greeley,
Colorado regarding this deviation. While the pool elevation is in the 1.25-foot range between 5432.0 and
5433.25 feet above msl, all releases from Chatfield Reservoir will be determined by the Division of Water
Resources and will be coordinated with our office as well as with Corps personnel at the Tri-Lakes office.

This deviation from standard flood control regulation procedures expires on November 30, 2002. In
the event that high rainfall runoff causes the pool elevation to rise above 5433.25, our office will retain
regulation responsibility of Chatfield Reservoir.

If you have any questions, please contact me at 402-221-4610 or Kevin Grode of my staff at 402-
221-3256.

Sincerely,

--r:~{{~r-

Timothy E.
