ADDITIONAL MITIGATION:
Colorado Hotel & Lodging Association - Members of the Colorado Hotel & Lodging Association
(CH &LA) recognize the need to balance the anticipated water shortage in Colorado with quality of
service to the guest. To that end, many member properties have begun planning sessions with their staff
to determine how best to address the situation particularly during the busy summer season.
CH &LA has solicited ideas from its members and will compile these ideas into a "white paper" for
dissemination to their members. The following recommendations could be made:
• Properties can begin by asking guests to reuse towels and bed linens (this has become a common
practice in "green" hotels) instead of request a daily change.
• Only serving ice water in restaurants and conference rooms upon request.
• Maintenance of showers, faucets and toilets to insure no leakage.
• Xeriscape planting this spring to reduce watering of grounds.
• Keep covers on hot tubs and swimming pools to reduce evaporation.
• Use blowers and vacuums to keep walkways and parking lots clean instead of hosing.
• Run dishwashers and laundry only with full loads.
• Cut back on washing of company vehicles.
• Check all flow restrictors on faucets and showerheads and reduce water softener regenerations.
• Change from linen to paper service in moderate service level dining facilities.
• Turn off ice machines on alternate floors.
• Minimize irrigation and water in non -peak times.
