The City
of Steamboat Springs receives water from three different water providers, the City of Steamboat Springs,
Mt. Werner Water District, and Steamboat II Water District and thus wanted to create one unifying plan
for the community. The City of Steamboat Springs is requesting $5,358 to develop a water conservation
plan that will comply with §37 -60 -126 C.R.S. and build on previous water conservation planning efforts.
The City of Steamboat Springs is located in the Yampa/White /Green Rivers Basin where SWSI identified
a 76% increase in demand by 2030 but with no gap identified. Energy development could be a major
factor in the changing the scenario described in SWSI 1. Water conservation will be vital in helping the
City of Steamboat to extend its renewable water supplies.
The City of Steamboat Springs has pledged 25% matching funds in the form of cash and in -kind services.
OWCDP staff has reviewed and evaluated the grant application and has determined that the proposal
meets or exceeds the CWCB guidelines for reviewing grant proposals. Attached is the internal checklist
used to evaluate the application.
Recommendation
The OWCDP staff recommends that Jennifer Gimbel, Director of the CWCB, authorize a Water
Efficiency Grant in the amount of $15,358 for the City of Steamboat to develop a community water
conservation plan in accordance with §37 -60 -126 C.R.S.
Attachment: Evaluation Checklist
Water Supply Protection • Watershed Protection & Flood Mitigation • Stream & Lake Protection • Water Supply Planning & Finance
Water Conservation & Drought Planning • Intrastate Water Management & Development
