Implementation Schedule
Davis Engineering Service, Inc. was contracted in June 2009 to prepare a design for the
repairs of the dam embankment, replacement of the sluice gate, extension of outlet pipe,
and to perform related field work. Their plans were submitted to the State Engineer's
Dam Safety Engineer for review and approval on August 7, 2009.
The reservoir was drained in early September 2009. The Trinchera Irrigation Company
began the removal of the riprap from the face of the dam. Gardner Excavating, Inc., the
general contractor, began the removal of silt, crushing riprap, and making necessary
preparations for reconstruction which would begin as soon as approval from the State
Engineer was received.
On November 2, 2009 approval of the design plans was received from Paul Perri, P.E.
with the State Engineer's Dam Safety Division. Reconstruction began immediately.
Photographs of the repairs and reconstruction are included in Appendix G.
The slope on the upstream side of the dam, replacement of the rip rap, and the outlet pipe
extension should be completed by the early December 2009. The sluice gate was ordered
from Waterman Industries and is scheduled to arrive in late December or early January
2010. It will be installed by Alcon Construction upon arrival. Appendix D contains the
design plans of the sluice gate.
Permitting
A Nationwide Permit No. 3 permit was issued September 29, 2009 by the Department of
the Army, Durango Regulatory Office, 799 East Third Street, Durango, CO.
