8.2.2 Klein Recharge Site
A conceptual layout of the proposed improvements at the Klein Recharge site is shown in Figure 4.
The recharge reservoir area was calculated based on conversation with the existing farmer,
knowledge of the areas soils, and several site visits. This site information collected estimates that
sandy soils will be achieved at a depth of approximately 5 ft which will be approximately the
recharge pond bottom. The recharge rate was assumed to be similar to the Schmidt soil conditions of
2 cfs/acre for a minimal size of 6 acres. The ponds were oversized to 9 acres to allow any
sedimentation or erosion within the reservoirs which will decrease the recharge ability. The recharge
reservoirs will be constructed with side slopes of 3H: 1 V which is consistent with sandy site soils that
extend from the natural ground surface to the free draining soils located above the aquifer. To
protect against storm water a two foot high berm will be constructed surrounding the excavated
reservoir. The augmentation water to be delivered to the recharge reservoir is proposed to be
delivered using an existing headgate off of the Lower Latham Ditch. Approximately 2,8501ineal feet
of the Klein Lateral will be concrete lined to facilitate future deliveries to the site.
- An EOPPC for the construction of the Klein Recharge site is shown in Table 4. It is noted that land
acquisition area included in the EOPPC is limited to that amount of area required for the recharge
ponds, sedimentation pond, and associated delivery and measurement structures.
-14-
