The subject locations are depicted generally below. <br />General Locations <br />A number of hydrologic parameters govern watershed discharge, so sufficient <br />information for perfect correlation cannot be developed without excessive effort and <br />expense. Adequate correlation is, however, likely attainable by considering just a few of <br />the most important parameters. Chief among these is precipitation. Barring any <br />transbasin input, a watershed can only discharge that water, or more accurately, a portion <br />of that water which falls from the sky as precipitation landing within its drainage area. <br />Another important parameter is land cover, which along with other characteristics affects <br />the proportion of the precipitation which becomes discharge. For example, a catchment <br />composed primarily of bare rock will discharge a larger percentage of its precipitation <br />than will a densely forested catchment. Quantification of these parameters allows for <br />significantly improved hydrologic yield estimation compared to the area proration <br />method previously utilized. <br />In order to determine the amount of precipitation available to the subject catchments and <br />gaged watersheds, the drainage area for each was first determined by applying ESRI's <br />ArcMap Spatial Analyst Watershed Tool to 1/3 aresecond NED digital elevation data <br />
