Tliis is far a hydrologic <br />water balance study with Chaffee County and including portions of Lake and Saguache <br />counties. <br />Study resu(ts whieh quantify both surface waier and gt•ound water and characterize the <br />interaction between them can be used to estimate aquifer recharge rates to identify the <br />atnouilt af graimd water available For sustainable use without llegative effecis sueh as <br />aquifer drawclown. The study will generate date which can be used to deal with increased <br />demands ior water due to the conlbined effects of an auticipated growth in population and <br />promulgation of'the Arkansas Basin Rules. <br />The Uf1WCD/USGS study is cosl-effective involving cooperation betweeil water <br />resource managers aiid Iand use planners. Costs of appraximaiely 36% will be borne by <br />USGS aiid approYimately 26% from local la»d use agencies such as ChafFee, Premont <br />aiid Custei• Couiities as well as local water resource managers sucli as Penrose and Round <br />Mountain Water Districts. This study will inerease the value of the Arkansas I3asin <br />HydroF3ase Decision Support SysYe?tZ, contribute to the upcoming DSS Feasibility Study, <br />aiid CQlll(J1eI11CIlt CSU's data collection for the DSS. Data will be stunmarized which can <br />be used far four of the eibht I-IydroIIase compoiients: <br />1} Water budget model and data collection <br />2) Grotind water ptanniiig model aiid data colleetian <br />3 <br />3) Surface water plaiuiiijg modei vid data colIection <br />4) Consumptive use model plaiuling aiid daCa collection
