ACKNOWLEDGMENTS

Contributions of the following are gratefully acknowledged: The Riparian
Landowners Association of the Logan and Blacksmith Fork Rivers who permitted
access across their lands, particularly Ray Theurer who was instrumental in
arranging the initial meeting with the Association. Much of our access was
gained across land owned by Clyde, Milton and DelRay Campbell, Joe Rinderknecht,
Oliver Low, Howard Fuhriman, and Darrell Kunzler. Arthur Maurer provided access
to the control site and George Winborg provided access to the bulldozed site
on the Blacksmith. Seth Alder, who owned land on which the recently dredged
site was located, notified us before each dredging and served as a liaison with
other landowners.

There were many people employed for various lengths of time during the
project, all of whose names cannot be listed. We are no less grateful for
their contributions than for those that follow. Phillip Gerrish contributed
greatly during the early stages of the project. Robert Reudiger, Craig Reger,
and John Coyle were technicians in various phases of the research. Carl
Brotherson was employed as a technician, although we depended on him far more
than that humble title would imply.

The work-study program at Utah State University provided a large number
of student assistants, all of whom were appreciated. We especially thank
Joseph Hinricher and Phillip Goebel for their efforts throughout most of the
project.

Helen Payne typed the first draft of this report, and Ellen Parker typed
the final draft, for which we are most grateful. Robert Burdick produced most
of the final graphics.

A contract with the National Stream Alteration Team of the U.S. Fish and
Wildlife Service provided the major support. Additional support was provided
by the Utah State University Ecology Center, the Utah State University Wild-
life Science Department, and Utah State University through the work-study
program.

This project was a joint venture of the Utah Cooperative Fishery Research
Unit and the Utah State University Department of Wildlife Science. The Utah
Cooperative Fishery Research Unit is jointly supported by Utah State Univer-
sity, the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources, and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife
Service, Department of the Interior.

The following persons were responsible for assembling the data and writing
the sections of this report: PhYSical Parameters - W. T. Helm, Brown Trout _
J. C. Gosse, Mountain Whitefish - M. J. Ottenbacher, and Macroinvertebrates _
S. J. Reger.

xviii
