An annual report with all pertinent data
will be prepared following the end of the 1980 field season in November.
Hatchery-Laboratory Studies
r
The hatchery laboratory studies are divided into four- cata'gories ;for
this 1980 update. These are: (1) Hybrid crosses of Gila; (2) liunipbacki -
chub propagation; (3) Striped bass study, and (4) Disease work.
Hybrid crosses of Gila. - Since efforts to capture a male bonytail chub
were uns?gccessfulIwo hybrid crosses were made-with female bonytail. Dn
May 1, 4 and 5 three female bonytails induced to ovulate using I to 2
injections of carp pituitary were crossed with roundtail -chub males
producing about 300, 22}430 and 3,708 eggs.
The second female bonytail chub was the only one with a full complement
of eggs. The next hybrid cross was made on May 20 between one bony-
tail female and 2 to 3 humpback males. This cross produced about 22,000
eggs. The eggs from both crosses hatched in 4 to 5 days resulting in
10,000-15,000 fry per cross. These fry were transfered to Dexter NFH
for rearing.
