A three man Vernal field crew sampled backwaters in the vicinity of
Ouray, Utah, in an effort to locate young-of-the-year Colorado squawfish
and study their movements. The crew used 1/4 in (15 ft x 6 ft) mesh
seines and standardized efforts to 10m2 seine hauls. Seven backwater
areas were sampled on October 30, 1979, of which three produced squawfish.
These three backwaters were sampled for the next two days. ' All young-
of-the-year squawfish collected were fin clipped (trailing edge of the
caudal) and released.
