GUIDELINES FOR THE PREPARATION <br />OF THE FISH HEALTH MANAGEMENT SECTION <br />FEBRUARY 5, 1996 <br />A Fish health management section will be prepared for all captive propagation programs <br />involving listed, candidate or fish species of special concern. The section will ensure that <br />our propagation programs do not adversely affect the hatchery or natural stocks of native or <br />wild fish. It will be incorporated into a larger propagation program plan. Each section will <br />comply with the Service's Fish Health Policy (Part 713 FWl-4) and the Fish Broodstock <br />Policy (Part 712 FWL1). The following issues should be covered by this section, and it will <br />be short and concise. <br />FISH HEALTH MANAGEMENT SECTION <br />(SPECIES) <br />DATE <br />I. Background: <br />A. Briefly discuss the fish health history of the hatchery and wild stock. <br />B. Attach past three fish health inspection reports for the hatchery and wild stock. <br />C. Describe Fish Health Center role in the diagnosis and treatment of fish <br />diseases at the hatchery and for wild stocks. <br />2. Current Fish Health Issues: <br />A. Evaluate hatchery fish health conditions which could affect propagation of <br />listed or candidate species. <br />B. Evaluate known fish health conditions within the wild populations. <br />C. Evaluate the need for on-hatchery isolation or quarantine of captive wild <br />stocks. <br />3. Field Collection Procedures: <br />A. Hatchery will notify the Fish Health Center before any field collections begin. <br />B. A fish health biologist will be accompany hatchery personnel during the first <br />field collections. <br />C. A fish health biologist will assist with health care of fish during transport to <br />40 <br />the hatchery.
