•
APPENDIX II
Linkage of CRSS with PHABSIM
In general, the linkage of the CRSS water management model with
PHABSIM was accomplished by coupling the WUA vs. flow data (contained
on TAPE 8 of the normal PHABSIM output or in a formatted permanent file)
with flow time series obtained from a run of CRSS to generate a WUA
series for the site(s) of interest as described in the library documenta-
tion,below.
The steps required to accomplish this linkage are described below.
Note only a limited number of values may be obtained as output from
a single run of CRSS so more than one run under the same set-up assump-
tions may be required if data are to be extracted for a large number of
sites in the river system. Due to the complexity of CRSS, users are
advised to work closely with USBR in performing CRSS runs and these
linkages. At present, CRSS is run only by USBR personnel for planning
and operations purposes. The linkages presented in this report facili-
tate development of habitat values associated with the flow series output
from CRSS. A more convenient method accessing the CRSS program is being
developed. The required final operation sequence is:
• Step 1. Run CRSS in association with qualified USBR personnel. CRSS
will only output data for specified points which may not
be the same points of interest to the fishery biologist in
determining habitat impacts of alternative management schemes.
Step 2. Run the procedure RCVTRSM (see library documentation below)
to convert the CRSS output on file T610UT to the Northwest
Data Center (NWDC) format used by the programs used in the
linkage system. Individual records are extracted from that
file using the GTR command and saved under the appropriate file
names.
Step 3. The flow units in these files are then converted from acre-
feet per month to cfs using the unit conversion procedure
known as CHGUNT.
Step 4. WUA time series are then generated for each life stage of
interest at each site using the WUA time series generation
program in the library.
Documentation of the Procedure File PCOL that Accesses
the Time Series Program Library COLLIB
Use of the program library COLLIB is possible by users trained in
• the CDC NOS operating system. The following description is intended
to aid such users; others should become familiar with NOS 1.4 before
attempting the system.
39
