Box 1306, <br />Albuquerque, flew Mexico 87103 <br />From:,,. ~'GRegional Director <br />Subject: Review of Draft Woundfin Recovery Plan <br />We have reviewed the subject plan and agree with the need to delineate <br />reasonable actions which will promote the goal of removing the woundfin <br />from the endangered or threatened species list. However, we feel that <br />the plan needs to be updated to include the data from the Vaughn Hansen <br />Associates study and Jack Williams' thesis. In addition, we feel there <br />is a need for hydrological and biological comparisons of the Virgin <br />River and suitable transplant locations. <br />We also offer the following specific comments: <br />Page 2, Second~aragraph - Reference should be made to Jack Williams' <br />maste s thesis and the 1977 Vaughn Hansen study. ' <br />Pa e 8 - The discussion on the red shiner should be updated to reflect <br />the data of the Vaughn Hansen report. <br />Page 9, First paragraph - The Uaughn Hansen study could be used or <br />referenced for a more complete discussion on invertebrates. <br />Pa e 9 Food Habits - This section should be updated to include data <br />from t e Vaughn Hansen study. <br />Page 11, Second paragraph - The discussion on .the period of highest <br />mortality is somewhat vague and needs further study. <br />Page 12, Inter-specific Interaction, First paragraph -This paragraph <br />needs to be updated to reflect data from Uaughn Hansen study and Jack <br />Williams' thesis. <br />Page 13, Second paragraph - Virtually all irrigation structures and <br />~~o~urio,~e~ ocations of the Virgin River waters were established by the early <br />Q ~, 1900 s . <br />v m <br />ac~~e ^a? ~ 3 6 / <br />
