Basic
information on the operation of Flaming Gorge was obtained from
Wayne Chaney of the Bureau. Wayne provided documentation on the
statutory operating principles for Flaming Gorge and suggested
that contact should be made with the the Western Area Power
Administration (Western).
Contact was then made with the Western office in Montrose,
Colorado, which scheduled water deliveries for hydropower
generation out of all Colorado River Storage Project (CRSP)
reservoirs. Ron James, who is primarily responsible for power
operations, provided information on past reservoir operations in
the upper basin and placed the the Service on the mailing list to
receive monthly updates on the operation of CRSP reservoirs.
The study got underway with a request to the Bureau Upper Colorado
River office for information on the operation and physical
characteristics of Flaming Gorge Reservo1r, dam and power
generation facilities. The information provided by the Bureau was
used to build a HYDROSS 3.0 network, and table files to simulate
the operations of Flaming Gorge Reservoir. The tables, graphs,
and network developed from the information submitted by the Bureau
is presented in Attachment 2 and is discussed below.
The information provided by the above sources on the operation and
physical characteristics of Flaming Gorge Reservoir, dam and power
generation facilities was then used to develop the network
definition and tables to simulate the operation of Flaming Gorge.
These tables are summarized below and appear in detail along with
the network in Attachment 2.
7
