S
Colorado.River: (S10, T1N, R2W, Ute PM to S7, T11S, R104W,
6th PM) This trend zone was located in Mesa County between
the boat ramp at Loma, Colorado and the Colorado-Utah state
line. It was about 31 km long and included Horsethief and
Ruby Canyons, as well as the Black Rocks area in Moore Bottom
(Figure 6).
In addition, four special sites were examined on the Yampa
River and one on the Colorado River because of the likelihood
of encountering endangered fishes. On the Yampa River these
special sites were Juniper Hot Springs (Y2J), and Juniper Canyon;
a large pool about two miles west of Cross Mountain Canyon in
Lily Park (Y4) and Cross Mountain Canyon (Figures 2 and 3).
An off-stream impoundment along the Colorado River (the labor
camp near Bridges Switch) was also sampled as a special site
(Figure 5b, see site G). Within each trend zone, seven to
eleven sites were selected for fish sampling. These collecting
sites were chosen because they were amenable to the collecting
equipment used. The Gunnison River trend zone was extended
this year to include the area below the Redlands Dam (Figure 6d).
4
