COLORADO SQUAWFISH AND HUMPBACK CHUB
POPULATION AND HABITAT MONITORING
Edmund J. Wick, Darrel E. Snyder,
David Langlois and Tom Lytle
PROGRAM NARRATIVE OBJECTIVES
To monitor reproductive success and year class abundance of
Colorado squawfish and humpback chubs in trend zones; develop
identification keys and monitor habitat status in trend zones
known to contain Colorado squawfish and humpback chubs.
INTRODUCTION
This report documents the findings from the second year of
effort of the Division of Wildlife's Colorado squawfish and
humpback chub population and habitat monitoring program.
Emphasis during the second year was placed on collection of
fish from all available age classes and recording pertinent
biological data. Several adult fish from the Yampa and Colorado
Rivers were tagged in an effort to tag fish until a large segment
of the population can be identified.
Many of the larval fishes examined during this project were
used in development of an identification key for Colorado River
larval fishes, a project sponsored by the Bureau of Land Manage-
ment.
2
