The Colorado River Wildlife Council

In 1956 an interstate committee was formed to coordinate the protection and management
of the fish and wildlife resources of the Colorado River, This commtttee was formalized on
March 31,1964, as the Colorado River Wildlife Council.
The Council consists of representatives of fish and game departments and wildlife
agencies of the seven states located on the Colorado River drainage - Arizona. California.
Colorado. Nevada, New Mexico, Utah and Wyoming.
Participating but nonvoting members of the Council may include,epresentatives from the
following federal agencies: the Bureau of Land Management, ForestService. Fish and Wildlife
Service. Bureau of Reclamation. National Park Service, Coast Guard. Army Corps of
Engineers and such other agencies as may be determined by the Cooncil. The purposes and
goals of the Council are:
(a) To foster, encourage, and promote the sound managemenl and use of all fish and
wildiife resources in the Colorado River drainage.
(b) To study proposed or current Federal projects affecting the Colorado River drainage
and to provide assistance or advice to any agency if and when the Council deems it
necessary for the beneficial management of the fish and wildlife fe$Ources.
(c) To advise on the planning and coordination of any inter5ltate or intrastate activity
affecting the fish and wildlife resources of the Colorado River draiinage,
(d) To suggest. consider. and encourage coordination of laws aM regulations deemed
necessary for the protection, welfare, and proper use of the fish and wildlife resources in the
Colorado River drainage and to recommend such laws and regulakms for adoption by the
appropriate authorities.
