Paper presented, Wyoming WATER QUAL.
chapter of the American Fisheries Society.
In an attempt to restore riparian habitat on
national resource lands, a "rest rotation"
grazing plan is presented in this paper. The
basic principles behind rest rotation are (1)
an existing pasture is divided into 3 or more
small pastures, (2) during year 1, Pasture A is
grazed hard during the summer months (June-
July) and the livestock moved out in early
August, (3) during Year 2 livestock graze
Pasture B and are only moved into Pasture A
during the seed ripe period (August-September)
to trample seeds into the ground, (4) after
seed trample, Pasture A is allowed to rest for
20 months until the three pastures' rest rotation
cycle starts again in June of Year 4.
194.
