Colorado River cutthroat trout (Salmo clarki
pleuriticus Cope) found there, fluvial habitat
in the basin was evaluated using the Habitat
Quality Index method. Large scale differences
in habitat value between natural and previously
impacted streams leads to the conclusion that
corresponding large scale reductions in trout
biomass should be expected. Thus, unless
adequate flow regimes are provided, construction
of the proposed Phase II transbasin water
diversion will have a very serious impact on
the populations of Colorado River cutthroat
trout in the North Fork Little Snake River
drainage.
59. The object of the
project was to manipulate non-desirable fish
populations in favor of more desirable game
fish species. Rotenone was applied from dip
stations on the tributaries and main river
above Fontenelle and Flaming Gorge Dams.
Detoxification stations were established at
Dinosaur National Monument. Fish killed in
order of apparent abundance included: Flannel-
mouth sucker (Catostomus latipinnis), Mountain
whitefish (Prosopium williamsoni), bonytail
chub (Gila robusta), Redside shiner (Richardsonius
balteatus), speckled dace (Rhinichthys osculus),
mottled sculpin (Cottus bairdi), bluehead
sucker (Pantosteus delphinus) carp (Cyprinus
carpio), brown trout (Salmo trutta), rainbow
trout (Salmo gairdneri), fathead minnow (Pimephales
promelas), Utah sucker (Catostomus ardens),
channel catfish (Ictalurus punctatus), Colorado
squawfish (Ptychocheilus lucius), and humpback
sucker (Xyrauchen texanus).
TOXICANT
IMPOUNDMENTS
MANAGEMENT
ENDANG.
