-2-

briefly summarized project impacts on fish and wildlife resources and
formally withdrew the May 1953 report and its supplements, It expressed
the opposition of the Service to the construction of the project.
A'n April 9, 1976, memorandum from the Bureau of Reclamation notified
~ the Fish and Wildlife Service of certain changes being made in the
project plan.- Briefly, these changes entail: (1) 'a reduction of about
3,250 acres in "new" lands to be irrigated; (2) a ;reduction of about
29,000 acre-feet in the active capacity of Pot Hook Reservoir; and (3)
a reduction in the length of the Pot Hook Canal by .about 14 miles.
Although these modifications would reduce the magnitude of
the adverse impacts vn antelope and sage grouse, the position of the
Fish and Wildlife Service--based on overall effects of the project--
remains unchanged.

This report fias.~aeen prepared under the authority, and in accordance
witfi the provisions, of the Fish and Wildlife Coordination Act (48 Stat.
401, as amended; 16 U.S.C. et. seq.). Its purpose is to amplify
the views expressed in the March 15 Position Statement and to further
support the ServiceTs conclusion-that the project should not be
~ constructed..
