<br />INTRODUCTION <br />The Savery-Pot Hook Project was authorized for construction by Public <br />Law 8$-568 enacted on September 2, 1964. The project area lies in the <br />~ Little Snake River drainage and straddles the Colorado-Wyoming border. <br />Its dominant purpose is irrigation. <br />~ In May of 1953, the Fish and Wildlife Service prepared a preliminary <br />report on the Savery-Pot Hook Project based on the limited biological <br />information then available. That Report was supplemented three times, <br />the last by memorandum dated P4ay 24, 1963. The supplemental information <br />was not based on significant new or additional biological data and <br />did not alter in any major respect the conclusions drawn in the <br />~ May 1953 report; i.e. that the project would have only a limited impact <br />on fish and wildlife resources. <br />~ Since this earlier report was based on the scanty data then available <br />and the most cursory of field investigations, and: since it predated <br />the National Environmental Policy Act by nearly 20 years, it no longer <br />~ represents the views of the Fish and Wildlife Service. Consequently, <br />on March 15, 1976, the Service's Regional Director in penver prepared <br />a Position Statement on the Savery-Pot Hook Project. This statement <br /> <br />
