<br />-28- <br />~ Raptor populations in the project area will decrease due to the <br />conversion of sagebrush hunting grounds to agricultural crops and <br />the concurrent elimination of the jackrabbit, cottontail, ground <br />i <br />squirrel, and other small rodent prey species that these birds <br />depend on. The extent of impact on the raptor populations, however, <br />is generally unknown. <br />Project operations will reduce flows in the Little Snake River during <br />the Inlarch and April nesting season for Canada geese. Therefore, some <br />i island nests will be more readily accessible to predators. This <br />increased nest predation will reduce somewhat the overall production <br />of Canada geese in the Little Snake River drainage. Sufficient data <br />~ are not available, however, to accurately predict the extent of <br />anticipated losses. <br /> <br />Fish <br />DISCUSSION <br />As previously stated, the Fish and Wildlife Service is concerned <br />~ that construction and operation of the Savery-Pot Hook Project <br />could jeopardize the continued existence in the Yampa River of <br />four species of fish native to the Colorado River drainage.
