-28-
~ Raptor populations in the project area will decrease due to the
conversion of sagebrush hunting grounds to agricultural crops and
the concurrent elimination of the jackrabbit, cottontail, ground
i
squirrel, and other small rodent prey species that these birds
depend on. The extent of impact on the raptor populations, however,
is generally unknown.
Project operations will reduce flows in the Little Snake River during
the Inlarch and April nesting season for Canada geese. Therefore, some
i island nests will be more readily accessible to predators. This
increased nest predation will reduce somewhat the overall production
of Canada geese in the Little Snake River drainage. Sufficient data
~ are not available, however, to accurately predict the extent of
anticipated losses.

Fish
DISCUSSION
As previously stated, the Fish and Wildlife Service is concerned
~ that construction and operation of the Savery-Pot Hook Project
could jeopardize the continued existence in the Yampa River of
four species of fish native to the Colorado River drainage. The
• Colorado River squawfish and the humpback chub are officially
listed as "Endangered Species." Recommendations to similarly
