6 I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I Based on this evidence, BIO/WEST recommends resumption of stomach pumping of humpback chub in Grand Canyon starting in September 1992. The plan agreed to by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (Amended Collecting Permit, June 11, 1992), pending completion of this study, is to examine up to 20 adult humpback chub over 250 mm TL each during September and November, 1992. Thus, a total of 40 fish would be subjected to stomach pumping by the described method in 1992. An evaluation of the technique would be included in BIO/WESTs 1992 Annual Report to determine if the procedure can be resumed in 1993. The stomach pumping technique tested was used on roundtail chub that averaged 279 mm TL (range, 220-404) and 172 g (range, 74-414). Based on the favorable results on roundtail chub as small as 220 mm TL, the method is determined suitable for use on humpback chub over 250 mm TL. LITERATURE CITED Eastman, J.T. 1977.
