<br />A special condition of the U. S. Army Corps of <br />Engineers (USAGE) 404 permit, issued for the project, <br />required WUA1 to fund a three year study to investigate <br />project impacts on Colorado squawfish (Ptychocheilus <br />Iucius), a federal and state listed endangered species <br />native to the White River. In 1983, the Colorado Division <br />of Wildlife {CDOW) entered into contractual agreement with <br />WUAl.to conduct the required study (Taylor Draw <br />Project-Contract Number 5281-X). <br />The objectives and general outline of study <br />procedures incorporated in the Memorandum of Agreement and <br />appended as part of WUA1 404 permit are listed below: <br />I <br />(a) Monitor squawfish population from dam to <br />stateline to: <br />t <br />(1) estimate squawfish numbers <br />(2) evaluate occurrence of squawfish spawning <br />and young-of-year (YOY) rearing. <br />(3) study squawfish_ movements <br />(4) identify areas with potential for <br />development into squawfish spawning' and/or <br />YOY rearing sites <br />(5)~ determine effects of channel morphology <br />changes resulting from reservoir <br />construction on squawfish <br />3 <br />.~' <br />
