We feel certain these endeavors will be important in moving toward
a time when squawfish and many other species within the riparian
ecosystem will be capable of sustaining themselves.
j We recognize a need for carefully coordinated efforts to meet our
country s many needs as we attempt to restore this species. On
the Tonto National Forest portion of the Salt River, which may
even yet contain squawfish, we anticipate working closely with
the Arizona Game and Fish Department, the Bureau of Reclamation,
the Salt River Project, the San Carlos Indians, the Bureau of
Indian Affairs, private citizens and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife
Service to incorporate the squawfish recovery team direction to
favor the biological needs of the species, while also including
the many needs of these agencies and organizations.
