10
number when reattaching a tag.
Endangered fish recaptures 1979-1984
Recapture information in this report includes fish that were
handled in CDOW or cooperative CD%7/USEWS or CDOW/National Park
Service (NPS) studies. This means fish were either originally
captured and tagged by CROW (and subsequently recaptured either by
CDOW or USFWS) or were recaptured by CDOW after original capture
and tagging by USEWS. This report does not include fish handled
exclusively by USEWS. Cooperative captures of adult squawfish
occurred on the Colorado River in August, October, and November of
1979 when USFWS participated in all CDOW sampling. In 1982, seven
squawfish collected during CDOW sampling on the Colorado and
Gunnison rivers were implanted with USEWS radiotransmitters.
Squawfish collected during the CDOW/NPS radiotelemetry study on the
Yampa River are also included in this report. The above
cooperative efforts are those in which adult squawfish were
captured; many other cooperative sampling efforts with a different
emphasis have been successful but are not reported here. See Wick
et al. 1985 for additional information on cooperative studies. In
addition to recapture information, radiotelemetry observations from
the 1982 CDOW/NPS study (Wick et al. 1983) were included with some
recaptured fish [tags 1310(Y), 1166(Y), 3284(0), and 3286(0)1 from
the Yampa River to supplement movement pattern observations.
Fish were considered to exhibit fidelity to a location if they
were recaptured within a specific river reach at different seasons
or years. Fish were considered to exhibit migratory behavior when
distance between captures was greater than 15 miles.
Humpback chub recaptures during 1979-1984 were included to
