The steel has ~
rusted and ~
delaminated leaving
the liner unsuitable for
long-term use.
As part of the outlet works repairs, the steel lined pipe sections will be removed and
replaced.
Planned improvements are intended to provide for the continued safe operations of the
dam and provide improved operational flexibility and safety.
ANALYSIS OF ALTERNATIVES AND SELECTED ALTERNATIVE
The purpose of this project is to implement several repairs and improvements to correct dam safety
deficiencies and improve the long-term operations at Milton Dam. The two primary concerns with the
outlet works are the degraded state of the upstream outlet gates and the deteriorating condition of
sections of the outlet pipes where steel liners were previously required to repair cracks in the original
cast iron pipe section. Secondary improvements will be to provide FRICO with the ability to operate the
outlet gates remotely. Four alternatives were considered for this project:
1) Do nothing
2) Replace the upstream outlet gates only
3) Repair the outlet conduits only
9
