The CWCB staffhas proposed 250 cfs in the months of Ma.y and
August and September with 500 cfs for the months of June and July.
We don't feel that these flows would be significant enough to be
able to provide the lcuid of amenity and public investment that we're
making in the whitewater course. And so we had hopes that at the
end of the day, the flaws would be substantially higher than that.
We also feel tUa.t the flows that have been requested by the Upper
Gunnison will provide the type of recreational amenity that we have
been worldng towards #o achieve. That's a11 my comments.
Don Schwindt: Any questions 'for Mr. DaVore? [unintelligibIe]
lW1an: Mr. DeVore, the strv, ctures that are outlined seem substantial. What
work has the Cowrty undertaken as far as engiaeering to see how the
backwater from these shiicuures affects the stage height at f lood
flows? JcrhnDeVore: Whax we relied on was the expertise of Mr. Lacy and doimg in that
design that they would respond ta both flood flaws and aisc? the issue
of icing has increased the veloaity in the mid.dle of the river and
would also take eare of that as we1L
1VIan: Do yQU tecall what Mr. Lacy's characierization of the mcrease in
uver stage vvould be at fldod flows?
John. DeVore: I think that would be a more appropriate qusstion to ask Mr. Lacy.
Don Schwin& , _ Harold; yau had-a question?
Harold MiskeL- Yes. 1VIr. DeVore, I had a conple of questions. One was, you talked
earlier about diversifying the economy in the Gounty and how
. imiportant this whitewater conrse would plap, the role- it would play
, in that diversification and expansion. 'Ilas the Cv,mty done any
studies or are thereauy estimates regarding the margmal mcrease
. tUat yon wouki expect in the e,conomy as a result of the whitewater
course being constructed in terffis of user days or increased tax
revemes or iacreased busitiess witb ia the County, that sort of thing?
John DeVore: No we haven't. What we bave done is taken 4 holistiC approach to
econqmic development.. VVben I say "holistic" is that it ranges
anywhere from - everywhere from expanded air service to the
progosed business park that we're worldng on to the whitewaterpark
to the mainsfream program that we feel that there has to be a- you
. have to Iook at the economy and the totality.
