Water Year 2002 EA Releases
Date s Amount Comments
6-01-02 300 cfs Began EA releases to maintain an initial goal of >_500 cfs in the river at the Grand
Island gage to maintain a healthy aquatic community (i.e., fish and invertebrates)/
forage base for terns and plovers.
6-14-02 0 cfs EA releases were terminated due to hydrocycling pattern of EA water returned at J-
2. Service biologists believe that the hydrocycling pattern of EA flows may be
nullifying anticipated benefits from flow augmentation and negatively impacting
the fish and macroinvertebrate communities.
6-21-02 300 cfs Started releases again, when flatloading at the Johnson hydro facility was possible
and EA water would be returned to the river at the J-2 return at a constant level.
6-27-02 400 cfs 300 cfs was not maintaining flows at a desired level at Grand Island.
6-28-02 500 cfs 400 cfs was not maintaining flows at a desired level at Grand Island.
6-29-02 600 cfs 500 cfs was not maintaining flows at a desired level at Grand Island.
7-05-02 550 cfs CNPPID started decreasing EA releases due to proximity to flood stage at North
Platte.
7-06-02 500 cfs See comment above.
7-09-02 600 cfs Increased releases again to improve the level of augmentation for aquatic
community health and tern/plover forage base.
7-13-02 550 cfs CNPPID started decreasing EA releases due to proximity to flood stage at North
Platte.
7-14-02 500 cfs See comment above.
7-26-02 300 cfs The third and final survey of the 2002 tern and plover nesting season in the central
Platte was completed on July 23. Because the majority of birds were done nesting
and most chicks fledged, and the quantity of water in the EA was not sufficient to
continue augmentation throughout the remainder of the irrigation season, "Carry
Over" was prioritized. Termination of EA releases was initiated.
7-27-02 100 cfs See comment above.
7-28-02 0 cfs See comment above.

Water Year 2003 EA AOP 4 January 30, 2003
