Carry-Over: Carry-over of EA water from one water year to the next insures that an adequate
amount of EA water will be available for use during the early months of the non-irrigation season
before additional water is accumulated or for other purposes during the next water year,
especially if EA contributions are at a minimum during the non-irrigation season. With no EA
releases made during the 2003 to 2006 water years, an adequate amount of EA water will be
available in WY07 for implementing a pulse flow, augmenting flows during the summer period,
and/or another yet-to-be-determined release. As the water year progresses, habitat, species, and
hydrologic conditions; EA volume, seepage/evaporation losses, and releases; and lake levels will
be closely monitored to determine how much EA water can or should be retained in Lake
McConaughy for carry-over purposes.
* Since January 2001, mean daily flows sustained for two consecutive days have not exceeded 2,000 cfs at the
Overton gage or 3,000 cfs at the Kearney gage. The considerable rainstorm event of May 2005 centered roughly
on Wood River sustained flows exceeding 4,000 cfs (peaking around 7,500 cfs) in the Platte River near Grand
Island for approximately 52 hours (USGS provisional data) but did not produce comparably high flows across the
entire habitat reach.
Water Year 2007 EA AOP 8 January 19, 2007
