The initial estimate of gap will calculated by subtracting current demand from
future demand.
2. The short-term projects and processes will be applied to the initial gap estimate.
Any remaining gap between supply and demand will have options and
alternatives developed.
• 3. Mid-term and long-term projects will be considered for meeting the remaining
gap.
4. The supply availability analysis at the basin level will be used a"check" for
meeting the remaining gap. The supply availability will include unappropriated
water available under various hydrologic conditions after short-term projects have
been subtracted from unappropriated water.
Alternatives Analysis
Following is a discussion of the steps that will be conducted in developing
alternatives for each basin. The definition of an alternative is a combination of projects
or options to meet each individual basin's needs? An example of this analysis will be
presented at the March CWCB Board Meeting) The steps that will be undertaken in
developing alternatives for each basin are:
1. Remove short-term projects and processes that have been identified by
proponents within the basin. As described above, determine the net gap by
subtracting current demands from 2030 demands and then adding supply from
the near-term projects and processes.
2. Aggregate "like" mid-term and long-term projects together. Examples of
aggregating like projects include grouping all reuse projects together or all
• reservoir enlargement projects together into "categories." These categories of
projects will be distributed into geographic areas within the basin as appropriate.
cm DRAFT
S_1Me0ngs\CWCB BoartlWtemativ?ApDmacA3.doc
