PROJECT APPROACH
If the KML file is not suitable for the Flood DSS map server, a second approach is to use the
Python script developed by Riverside for the CWCB to download and process the raw data tables
and join the current data to a SNOTEL station shapefile.
Flood Threat Bulletin 7-15 Day Flood Warning -HDR provides the CWCB with flood threat
warning maps during the flood season from April through September. The maps are available
through the CWCB's Flood Outlook website in a PDF format. In the Flood DSS prototype, an
example flood threat bulletin was digitized for display in the map server. For the Phase I Flood
DSS, Riverside will work with the CWCB and HDR to obtain the data from a regular data feed
in a shapefile or geodatabase format. This will allow an automated process be developed to
update the Flood Threat.
SNODAS SWE -Real-time SNODAS data products are available from the National Operational
Hydrologic Remote Sensing Center (NOHRSC). Archived SNODAS data are available from the
National Snow and Ice Data Center (NSIDC). The data are available in several formats.
NOHRSC hosts daily Google Earth KML layers for the past six days. In addition, hourly and
daily grids in Band Interleaved by Line (BIL) format can be downloaded and processed into an
ArcGIS environment. Riverside developed an ArcGIS tool that downloads and processes the
SNODAS SWE data into a statewide map for Colorado (Figure 4-~. This tool could easily be
expanded to process the sublimation and snowmelt data products as well.
DNR RFP PDA-923 41 R I V E R S I D E
Figure 4-6.
