' ~
RESULTS AND DISCUSSION
Historic Information - -~ -
Documentation of the presence of Colorado squawfish in the Duchesne
River was first-noted in unpublished stream survey reports of UDWR
in 1956 (Table 1). Eight squawfish were recorded in electrofishing
surveys of four 1/10 mile reaches on August 7-8, 1956 from
Bridgeland {RM 49) to the Green River confluence. Sizes of
captured fish were given in ranges of inches with the largest a 15"
(380 mm) specimen, captured 4.6 miles east of Bridgeland.
Squawfish were again noted in 1968 in an early December UFGD survey
(unpublished data). Survey records note-only that squawfish were
present in three sections; 1) t the Duchesne River-Green River
confluence, 2) between the confluence and the Duchesne-Uintah
County line, and 3) from the county line to the Strawberry River
confluence. No numbers or sizes were given on the field forms.
Mullan (1975) recorded a 3" (75 mm) Colorado squawfish on 6/24/70
in the lower Uinta River just upstream from its confluence with the
Duchesne River (RM 14.3). Seethaler (1978) recorded the capture of
five squawfish by Ute Tribe members at the confluence of the Uinta
and the Duchesne Rivers in the spring of 1975. No information was
given on lengths and weights.
Tyus (1982) tracked.a radio-impla;~ted Colorado squawfish from the
Green-Duchesne river confluence into the Duchesne River in May of
;; 3.
