Trammel Netting and Seining
Deep pool areas in stratum B were sampled with 75 x 6 ft. trammel
nets. Two mesh sizes, 10" outer wall and 1/2" inner and 10" outer
wall and l" inner, were used. Trammel nets were used in a seining
mode in pool habitats that could be successfully waded. They were
also employed in stationary sets in selected pools. All trammel
net sampling was conducted on private lands in stratum B due to
problems with access approval from-the Ute Tribe.
Opportunistic seining of suspected nursery areas for young-of-year
fishes was conducted in mid-September. All seine work was done
with a 1/8 inch ace-mesh beach seine, 15 feet long by 4 feet deep.
Seine hauls were inspected in the field for presence of endangered
1
fishes then preserved for laboratory analysis. All
YOY fishes were later identified in the lab using a lOX dissecting
microscope and applicable ID manuals and keys. Seine sampling was
limited to stratum B due to access problems on Ute Tribal land.
:i 9
