Benthic samples were collected to a depth of 2 cm. A liter
of this material would comprise an area of approximately 0.05 m2.
It is important to remember when interpreting graphs for benthos
that only one benthic sample was collected for each station at
each sample period.
Overview of Invertebrate Sample Stations
Invertebrate sample stations were established in the study
area in June of 1993 (Figure 17). A total of 13 stations were
sampled for invertebrates (Table 6). Communities represented by
these stations are: 1) bulrush (3 stations); 2) open water-
aquatic (3 stations); 3) alkali bulrush (3 stations); 4) riverine
backwater (1 station); and 5) river (3 stations). Communities
were sampled six times during 1993 on or about the dates of 11
June, 4 July, 19 July, 4 August, 24 August, and 25 September.
Only one backwater station was sampled because it was the only
one available in the study area. When stations went dry they
were no longer sampled.
Table 6.
