Cations and Anions <br />Cations and anions, were investigated to determine salt <br />concentrations of water and the types of salts present. -The <br />results were surprising and definitive. Two major types of water <br />-occur in the study area; calcium sulfate (gypsum salt dominated) <br />water and sodium chloride (salt) water. The calcium sulfate. <br />.waters are generally of low conductance, ,low total ion <br />concentrations, and low sodium and chloride. The sodium. chloride <br />waters had very high conductance, high-total ion concentrations, <br />and very high sodium. and chloride concentrations. Maximum- <br />conductances for surface and ground waters are shown in Figure <br />18. <br />
